Mexico’s National Health Commission (NHC) estimates that up to 40 percent of all visitors to the country are from the Middle East, and this country’s health expenditure for one year alone has far outpaced that of any other country in the region. But will the cost of this drug be worth the price tag?
To put it simply, no.
According to a recent analysis, the average cost of Celebrex in Mexico is almost $1,200 per patient, compared to $800 for the United States.
The NHC points to a trend where Mexico has seen a decline in prescription prices for several years, while the United States has seen a increase in drug prices for several years. In other words, the NHC doesn’t expect Mexico to do anything to achieve what it needs to do, except for improving public health. And that’s not to say it isn’t working.
But the NHC’s analysis also doesn’t discount the potential for Mexico to do more to tackle the problem of drug-resistant tuberculosis.
